“BLADE RUNNER 2049”

Rating: R for violence, some sexuality, nudity and language.

What it’s about: The sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic follows a detective as he hunts down replicants in a dystopian future.

The kid attractor factor: Star Ryan Gosling and the sci-fi epic genre.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Everything has the possibility for a soul, and a soul means a right to autonomy, freedom and individuality.

Violence: Several brutal fist fights, stabbing, drowning, drone warfare and other violence.

Language: Several instances of strong language/swearing.

Sexuality: Graphic female nudity throughout; one instance of graphic male nudity. The presence of sex workers. One sex scene, though not graphic.

Drugs: Drinking

Parents advisory: This sci-fi film is OK for teens but too sexual and violent for kids.

“MY LITTLE PONY: 
THE MOVIE”

Rating: PG for mild action.

What it’s about: Princess Twilight sets out to save Equestria and the other Princess ponies from the Evil Storm King and his hench-pony Tempest.

The kid attractor factor: The bright, colorful animation, songs, and familiarity with the My Little Pony toys or animated series.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Friendship is important to maintain, even when you mess up. Always say you’re sorry, stick together, and accept your friends for who they are. The more the merrier!

Violence: Some action-based scenes with the Storm King and his evil army capturing and fighting the ponies and their pals.

Language: None

Sexuality: None

Drugs: None

Parents advisory: This animated adventure is appropriate for all kids.
