The Oregon Liquor Control Commission received 22 applications for new liquor stores in Central Oregon, the commission announced Friday.

In all, the OLCC by its deadline received 32 applications from would-be contractors in 14 counties of Central and Northeast Oregon. Twelve applications arrived from Bend; some applicants submitted more than one proposal.

The OLCC is in phase two of a plan to increase the number of liquor stores across the state to 43 to catch up with its growing population. The push started in 2015 with 20 new liquor contractors in the Portland metro area and in Benton, Linn and Lane counties.

Applicants in Bend include Newport Avenue Market, two locations on NE and SE Third Street for Thrifty Payless, and locations on NorthWest Crossing Drive, N. U.S. Highway 97 and elsewhere on NE Third Street.

Other Central Oregon applications include two each in Redmond and Sisters, and one each in Madras, Prineville, Terrebonne and Tumalo.

The OLCC will take written public comment on the applications until 5 p.m. Sept. 30. Comments may be sent via email to OLCC.RetailServices@Oregon.gov or by postal mail to OLCC Retail Services, PO Box 22297, Milwaukie, OR 97269-2297.

The commissioners will review comments submitted and make final decisions. Applicants will have an opportunity present their proposals to the commission Oct. 26 and 27.
