Lynch’s No. 24 won’t be worn this year for the Seahawks

One of the Seattle Seahawks’ seventh-round picks Saturday in the NFL draft, Clemson running back Zac Brooks, wore No. 24 in college, the same number worn since 2010 by Marshawn Lynch.

But Brooks will not wear that number with the Seahawks, general manager John Schneider said Monday.

“One of my last conversations with Marshawn was that nobody was going to wear No. 24 this year in the regular season,” Schneider said.

Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin made his views on that topic public Saturday with a tweet stating that while he is thrilled with the new teammates, they have to come to Seattle with one condition: “Nobody wears 24 for years to come.”

Lynch later responded “I’m wit that!”

Lynch has announced his retirement, though he has yet to file papers with the NFL.

Seattle has four retired numbers — No. 80 Steve Largent, No. 71 for Walter Jones, No. 96 for Cortez Kennedy and No. 12 for the fans. Largent, Jones and Kennedy are all in the Hall of Fame, the only three players in the Hall of Fame who spent their entire NFL careers with the Seahawks.
