Prep notebook: Outlaws selected to all-league teams

Sisters sophomore Keegan Greeney was named to the all-Sky-Em League boys basketball first team after helping Sisters to its first state playoff appearance since 2012. Sisters seniors Conner Schaab and Justin Harrer were voted to the second team, and Outlaw seniors Tysen Gill and Ben Larson and junior Hayes Moore received honorable mention. Sutherlin’s Noah Caillier was named the Sky-Em player of the year, and Sutherlin’s Tony Martineau was voted the coach of the year. Sisters seniors Cierra Mann, Boston Moore and Haylie Hudson, as well as junior Olivia Stewart, received honorable mention for the Sky-Em girls all-league teams. Sutherlin’s Miranda Mendenhall and Cottage Grove’s Conner Borigo were selected co-players of the year, and Cottage Grove’s Kerry Clawson was selected as the league’s coach of the year.

Stacona named TVC player of the year

For the second straight season, Madras’ Mariah Stacona was voted the Tri-Valley Conference girls basketball player of the year. The White Buffaloes’ senior guard shared the honor with Gladstone’s Molly Webster and highlighted three Madras players named to the all-league teams. Madras junior Leah Suppah was a second-team selection, and freshman teammate Lynden Harry received honorable mention. Crook County senior Kimmer Severance was selected to the first team, and the Cowgirls senior Michaline Malott and junior Chelsea Thomas received honorable mention. Madras’ Zach Lillebo and Molalla’s Phil Wiesner were voted co-coaches of the year, and Gladstone’s Mikaela Simac was selected as the defensive player of the year.

Area athletes shine for Corban

Central Oregon products Jared Lambert and Sarah Taylor, both playing for Corban University in Salem, were named Cascade Collegiate Conference athletes of the week in their respective sports for the week ending March 15. Lambert, a senior golfer from Redmond High, won his second CCC athlete of the week award of the season by finishing second in the Corban Spring Invite, held March 9-10 at Creekside Golf Club in Salem. Lambert posted scores of 71-70-71 for a 1-under total of 212. He was the top CCC finisher in the tournament and led Corban to a second-place finish among nine teams. Taylor, a junior from Summit High, tied for first place in the high jump at the Saints Open on March 14 at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham. Taylor cleared a height of 5 feet, 2 1/4 inches.
