Bend boys bury Churchill for lacrosse win

Seven different players scored for Bend High as the Lava Bears steamrolled Churchill of Eugene 17-1 in a nonleague boys lacrosse game Saturday at 15th Street Field.

Cade Hinderlider scored a game-high six goals, including three in the first quarter. All three were assisted by James Rockett, who also had two goals in the opening period.

Bend led 6-0 after one quarter and 10-0 at halftime en route to its fourth win in five games.

Rockett finished with five goals and five assists. Other scorers for the Lava Bears were Eli Pite with two goals, and Chance Beutler, Cohl Johnston, Connor Iverson and Quinn Fettig with one apiece. Pite, Beutler and Johnston each had two assists.

Defensively, Fettig and Iverson led the Lava Bears with six ground balls each.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Central Oregon Lacrosse 12, Roseburg 4: Allie Rockett scored five goals and Kyra Hajovsky had one goal to go with four assists, leading host Central Oregon to its fourth consecutive victory to open the season. Kelsey Norby and Ally Hand shared goalkeeping duties for Central Oregon in the nonleague win at 15th Street Field.

TRACK AND FIELD

Summit cleans up at invite: ALOHA — Matthew Maton logged the third-fastest time in the state to win the 800, one of four winners for the Summit boys at the Aloha Preview. Maton finished the race in 1:57.68. Kyle Heimuller (discus), Calvin Aylward (javelin) and Michael Menefee (high jump) each won for the Storm. For the girls, Alexa Thomas won the 100 and Dani Taylor took the high jump.

Outlaws’ Pollard shines at Classic: EUGENE — In leading Sisters to 32.5 points and a ninth-place finish at the Marist Track Classic, Brandon Pollard claimed wins in the 800 and the 1,500 while running the anchor leg of the first-place 1,600 relay team. Lebanon won the 12-team boys meet with 126 points. Zoe Falk was second in the 800 and third in the long jump to lead the Sisters girls, who tied for eighth with 43.5 points. West Salem won with 156.5 points.

Ridgeview boys, girls go 3-4: SANDY — Cody Simpson finished first in the pole vault and second in the javelin to lead the Raven boys to 97 points and a third-place finish at the Sandy Invitational. Caleb Ronhaar was second in the high jump for Ridgeview, and Landon Prescott was runner-up in the 800. For Redmond, which was eighth in the 12-team meet with 21 points, John Hickey logged the top finish by taking second in the 300 hurdles. Sandy was first with 150 points. McKenzie Hidalgo (discus) and Hosanna Wilder (high jump) each won for the Ridgeview girls, who were fourth with 89.5 points. Redmond, which tied for ninth with nine points, was led by Kiersten Ochsner’s second-place finish in the 100. Barlow won the 12-team meet with 140 points.

Likens highlights Hawks: JUNCTION CITY — Alissa Likens recorded a leap of 32 feet, 11 inches to win the triple jump and help La Pine take ninth with 800 points at the Junction City Invitational. Chloee Sazama was second in the pole vault for the Hawks, and Holli Glenn took third in the triple jump. For the boys, Keegan Kriz led La Pine by taking third in the 400. The Hawks finished in ninth with 714 points. Newport swept the 14-team boys and girls meets with 1,351.5 and 1,284 points, respectively.

Gilchrist fourth at invite: CONDON — Brenden Wolf won the 110 hurdles and helped the Grizzlies place fourth in the 11-team Condon/Wheeler Invitational. Gilchrist finished with 57 points, while Lyle/Wishram (Wash.) won with 159 points. Wolf took second in both the high jump and long jump for the Grizzlies, and Mike McGregor added a win in the 800 and a third-place finish in the 100. For the Gilchrist girls, who were sixth as a team with 29 points, Sierra Shuey led the way with a win in the 200, while Madison Bean placed second in the 800. Condon/Wheeler won the eight-team meet with 116 points.

BOYS TENNIS

Summit takes three-team tourney: PORTLAND — The No. 1 doubles team of Liam Hall and Garen Gasparovic went 2-0 — including a victory over Oregon Episcopal’s defending Class 4A/3A/2A/1A doubles state champions — and led Summit to matching 6-2 wins over West Linn and host Oregon Episcopal. Also going 2-0 for the Storm were singles players William Dalquist, Carter Quigley and Lindsay Valentine.

BASEBALL

Pilot Rock/Nixyaawii 7-4, Crook County 1-6: MORO — Playing at Sherman High School, the Cowboys split their nonleague doubleheader to move to 4-4.

SOFTBALL

La Pine 20-13, Chiloquin 7-2: CHILOQUIN — The Hawks snapped a three-game skid with a sweep of Chiloquin in a nonconference doubleheader. In the first game, Keara Parrish hit a pair of home runs to go along with three triples and three RBIs for La Pine, while Micaela Miller also homered. Brenna Carpenter went all five innings in the second game for the Hawks (6-4), while Kylie Walsworth went 4 for 4 and Parrish was 2 for 3.
