Bucks owner Kohl reaches deal to sell team — Bucks owner Herb Kohl has reached a deal to sell the franchise to New York investment firm executives Marc Lasry and Wesley Edens. Kohl announced the deal Wednesday at the BMO Harris Bradley Center hours before the team was to play its final game of a dismal season. With the worst record in the NBA, Milwaukee is in position for a high draft pick. Kohl is a former U.S. senator who has owned the team since 1985. Kohl has made it a priority to find owners or investors who will keep the franchise in Milwaukee. He’s also spoken for years about the need to upgrade or replace the Bradley Center, the team’s downtown home which opened in 1988.

UCLA’s Anderson and LaVine declare for NBA draft — UCLA guards Kyle Anderson and Zach LaVine are leaving early for the NBA draft. Anderson, a sophomore from Fairview, N.J., and LaVine, a freshman from Seattle, each said Wednesday that they will forego their remaining eligibility with the Bruins to start pro careers. Anderson averaged 14.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 6.5 assists this season, closer to a triple-double than any player in the nation. LaVine averaged 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists while earning Pac-12 all-freshman honors.

Arizona State guard declares for NBA draft — Jahii Carson has made it official: He’s headed to the NBA. The Arizona State point guard said before his sophomore season that it would be his last with the Sun Devils and he stayed true to his word by declaring for the NBA draft on Wednesday. The 5-foot-11 guard was a two-time All-Pac-12 first team selection and averaged 18.6 points, 4.6 assists and 4 rebounds while leading the Sun Devils to the NCAA tournament this year for the first time since 2009.

Atlanta lands MLS expansion team for 2017 — Atlanta has become the newest city in Major League Soccer with an expansion franchise that will begin play in 2017. The team announced Wednesday will be owned by Arthur Blank, who also owns the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. The MLS team will play in a new $1 billion retractable roof stadium to be built next to the Georgia Dome. While primarily designed for the Falcons, Blank was eager to line up an additional revenue source for the new facility. MLS, which has 19 teams this season, is expanding rapidly with a goal of having 24 franchises. Orlando and New York City are scheduled to begin play next season, and the league has awarded a provisional franchise in Miami to a group led by David Beckham, contingent on a new stadium deal.

Golf

Players Championship changes to 3-hole playoff — The Players Championship is changing this year to a three-hole aggregate playoff involving the closing stretch at the TPC Sawgrass. PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem announced the new format Wednesday. The Players Championship previously was a sudden-death playoff that began on the par-3 17th hole, famous for having an island green. Starting this year, a playoff would take place on the par-5 16th hole, the 17th, and the par-4 18th. If players are still tied, it would go to sudden death starting on the 17th. The Players Championship is May 8-11.
