A Bend teen with a driver’s permit crashed a car into an outdoor picnic table at a bar and grill in NE Bend on Saturday afternoon, according to Bend Police Sgt. Adam Juhnke.

The 15-year-old boy got into the driver’s seat of a Toyota Avalon in the parking lot of Northside Bar and Grill just after 4 p.m. with his dad in the passenger seat, according to Juhnke. The sergeant, who was at the scene, said the boy accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing him to jump the car over the curb and into a picnic table in front of the bar and grill. The large, wooden picnic table was shoved into the front window and wall of the bar and grill, causing some structural damage.

The four people seated at the table were not seriously injured, Juhnke said, but suffered some cuts and drove themselves to St. Charles Bend.

The boy driving the vehicle was not physically injured, according to Juhnke.

The lower pane of the bar and grill’s front window was also shattered, and a portion of the face of the building was shoved inward. The main damage to the Avalon was on the front left fender and the left headlight was broken.
