Two Redmond teens were indicted this week by a Deschutes County grand jury on charges including attempted murder related to an attack on the mother of one of the teens.

Dakota Ortwein and Reyanne West, both 17, were indicted for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and conspiracy to commit arson.

Dakota Ortwein and West allegedly conspired to kill Ortwein’s mother, Shasta Ortwein, 37, and then burn down her house “with her body left inside,” according to a release from the Deschutes County District Attorney’s office.

Dakota Ortwein allegedly hid in the house he shares with his mother on May 19, and when she arrived home he sprayed her with pepper spray and began hitting her on the head with a baseball bat, according to the release. Shasta Ortwein then wrestled the bat away from her son and called 911, according to the DA’s release. Redmond Police responded to the home and took Dakota Ortwein into custody.

The next court hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 10 at the Deschutes County Circuit Court. Dakota Ortwein and West are being lodged at the Deschutes County Juvenile Detention Facility.
