A vintage airplane crashed this afternoon at the Sunriver Airport, and the pilot walked away uninjured.
Responding to the site at about 2:20 p.m., Sunriver Police found a 1947 Stinson Voyager 108 upside down off to the east side of the runway, according to a news release from the police.
Pilot Christopher Cole, 45, of Bothell, Washington, had extricated himself from the plane.
The crash reportedly occurred when Cole was landing northbound and a “suspected” crosswind made the plane veer off the runway into soft dirt and cinder rocks, according to the news release. The aircraft’s nose hit the dirt and the plane flipped.
The airport was closed for just over an hour, and the National Transportation Safety Board was contacted to investigate the crash.
