The English Beat is back in Bend

Dave Wakeling and The English Beat aren’t “saving it for later.” The reunited 2 Tone ska band is set to drop its new studio album “Here We Go Love” following a successful (and then some) crowdfunding campaign on pledgemusic.com. Expect a single in January followed by the full album in March, according to an update from the band on the PledgeMusic page (other updates include snippets of new songs — not much to go by, but Wakeling’s voice sounds in fine form). Here’s where things get a little confusing, however: The original Beat (known as The English Beat in the U.S.) released its third and final album “Special Beat Service” in 1982, and Ranking Roger, the band’s other original vocalist, released the album “Bounce” in 2016 with The Beat Featuring Ranking Roger.

But with no apparent bad blood between the two Beats (Wakeling happily mentioned Ranking Roger’s version in an interview with GO! in 2015), fans of the original group can feel good about checking out both. Wakeling and The English Beat will return to Bend for the third year in a row when they play the Domino Room on Friday.

The English Beat, with DJ Eric, Dr. Woodruff: 8 p.m. Friday; $32 plus fees in advance, $35 at the door; Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend; randompresents.com, bendticket.com or 541-408-4329.
