Q: Someone told me that Julianne Moore once was on a soap opera. Is that true?
— Joanna Hall, Columbus, Ohio
A: It is. Very early in her career, the eventual Oscar winner was a regular cast member on CBS’ “As the World Turns” for several years in the mid-1980s, earning a Daytime Emmy Award for her work. She did a reasonable amount of television at the time, also including Valerie Bertinelli’s CBS miniseries “I’ll Take Manhattan” and one of Burt Reynolds’ “B.L. Stryker” detective capers for ABC.
After that, it was mainly theatrical films for Moore, with notable exceptions including the HBO movie “Game Change” and a guest arc on NBC’s “30 Rock.” However, impressively proving that she appreciated where she came from, Moore reprised the part of Frannie Hughes in a 2010 episode of “As the World Turns” … to honor the show before it went off the air.
Q: When does the new season of “Chicago P.D.” start? Will it still air on NBC?
— Debi Young, via email
A: Hopefully, you’ve found it by now, since its sixth NBC season already has begun — but it’s worth mentioning that the police drama has been joined on Wednesdays by the other two series in executive producer Dick Wolf’s “Chicago” canon, “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago Med.” That’s all the better for the shows to do crossover stories that link all three, the case very early in the new years of the programs.
For those who want to catch up on “P.D.” repeats, that is not a problem — and it’s becoming less of one increasingly. As those continue on USA Network and Oxygen, they’ve been added to the MyNetworkTV lineup weekly on Tuesdays. Plus, Ion Television also has acquired them and will start showing them early next year. Translation? That’s a whole lot of “Chicago P.D.” coming your way, if you so choose.
Q: On a recent episode of “Celebrity Family Feud,” I was surprised to see Sarah Drew on the “Grey’s Anatomy” team. Hasn’t she left that show?
— Robin Lang, Daytona Beach, Florida
A: She has, but that “Feud” episode (in which the “Grey’s” team was pitted against a group from the spinoff “Station 19”) was taped before her time on the ABC medical drama ran out. After her “Grey’s” stint ended, Drew filmed the pilot for a proposed revival of the police drama “Cagney & Lacey” for CBS, but it ultimately wasn’t picked up. She already has a TV movie (“Christmas Pen Pals”) in the works for this holiday season, and we’d be surprised if she doesn’t land another regular home-screen gig before long.
Q: At the start of the movie “The Holiday,” Jack Black is seen composing the music for a kissing scene between two performers. The man looks a lot like Alex O’Loughlin of “Hawaii Five-0.” Is it?
— Karen McHenry, via email
A: It is, in what has to be one of the ultimate definitions of “not a bad day at the office.” And his partner in the scene is someone who also has become known for a lot of television work … Odette Annable (then known by her maiden name, Odette Yustman), seen last season as Reign on The CW’s “Supergirl.”
Q: Will Richard Dean Anderson ever appear on the new version of “MacGyver”?
— George Cates, Naperville, Illinois
A: While again invoking our usual procedure of not saying anything definitive about “ever” — since our crystal ball doesn’t look that far — we can say that current title star Lucas Till told us a while back that the producers had some ideas about how to involve original “MacGyver” Anderson in the current CBS incarnation. As of this writing, nothing certain had happened on that front. Again, though, never say “never.”
Q: Will the recent version of “Little Women” with Angela Lansbury be available on home video?
— Jessica Brown, Golden Valley, Arizona
A: It already is. PBS Distribution issued it on DVD and Blu-ray last May, in the same week the concluding half was televised nationally on PBS stations. Adapted from the Louisa May Alcott classic by “Call the Midwife” creator Heidi Thomas, the BBC co-production also features Emily Watson, Willa Fitzgerald and Kathryn Newton (“Big Little Liars”).
