Police arrested a Bend man on Tuesday after he allegedly broke into a Sisters bookstore with a hatchet.

Hendrix Reed Pursell, 21, is accused of breaking into Lonesome Water Books in Sisters, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. He faces charges of second-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief.

A passing driver told police that someone, wearing a black ski mask, was trying to break into the bookstore on W. Cascade Avenue. Deputies responded at 6:15 p.m.

When deputies arrived, the suspect had found his way into the store and was holding a hatchet. Police arrested Pursell without incident, the release said.
