Man dies in car crash on Bear Creek Road east of Bend

A 74-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash east of Bend on Monday morning, authorities said.
Deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at 9:15 a.m. to the crash on Bear Creek Road at Byram Road, where they found a 2008 GMC Sierra pickup and a 2022 BMW X3 on its side.

According to a preliminary investigation, the BMW X3 was traveling north on Byram Road from U.S. Highway 20 and the GMC pickup was traveling east on Bear Creek Road. The BMW X3 did not come to a complete stop at the stop sign and was struck by the GMC pickup.
The driver of the BMW X3, Manuel Davis, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the BMW, a 61-year-old man from Bend, was taken to St. Charles Bend with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the GMC pick-up, a 65-year-old Bend man, received injuries not considered life threatening and was also transported to St. Charles Bend.
