Three worthy shows at the Midtown and Domino Room

- After eight years out of the public eye, Oregon indie-folk band Blind Pilot is back with a fine new album, "In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain."
November’s looking strong at the Midtown Ballroom and Domino Room, the adjacent venues located inside the same building at 51 NW Greenwood Ave., in Bend. Coming later this month: Blues giant Curtis Salgado, indie rapper Brother Ali, rootsy band The Brothers Comatose and the heavy metal parody act Mac Sabbath.
You can learn more about those shows at midtownballroom.com. Same goes for the three coming up this week:
After eight years away from the public eye, Oregon indie-folk band Blind Pilot is back with a fine new album called “In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain.” If you were a fan of their first three albums, you’ll like this one, too; it delivers plenty of the earnest, easygoing and effortlessly melodic songs that made the band popular. Molly Sarlé opens. 8 p.m. Friday, doors open 7 p.m., $32.50, Midtown Ballroom.
Hot Buttered Rum used to stop in town and play a show every year or so. Their visits are rarer these days, so here’s your chance to soak up the Bay Area band’s progressive brand of bluegrass, complete with string-tickling solos, spirited jams and a consistently propulsive pace. Huck Finn Yacht Club opens. 9 p.m. Saturday, doors open 8 p.m., $20, Domino Room.
According to Google Maps, the drive from Guadalajara, Mexico, to Bend is approximately 3,725 miles. That’s how far Descartes A Kant has traveled to play its vibrant, futuristic art-pop-rock for you. Equal parts crunchy, groovy and melodic, the band’s new album, “After Destruction,” sounds like The Breeders gone prog in the 22nd century. 7:30 p.m. Sunday, doors open 7 p.m., $15, Domino Room.
