Bend park district to host skate sessions and celebrate winter solstice

The Bend Park & Recreation District will host various winter activities over the next few weeks.

The park district will host its winter solstice celebration Dec. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m at the Pavilion at Simpson and Colorado avenues in Bend. Those who bring a canned food item to donate to NeighborImpact will receive a special $7 admission price, which includes ice skate rental. 

The winter solstice skate session includes free cocoa and cookies as well as food for purchase. There will be a performance by Bend Ice Figure Skating Club at 7 p.m.

Holiday skate sessions will be available at the Pavilion daily from Saturday through Jan. 4, including Dec. 24, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The Pavilion will be closed Dec. 25.

Juniper Swim & Fitness Center and Larkspur Community Center have drop-in recreation swim sessions through January. The two centers are open daily except for Dec. 25. Sessions include open recreation swim for all ages, parent-child swim for children 6 and younger and family swim with an adult. Adults entry is $7 when an adult accompanies a paid child.
