Applications for Central Oregon Community College’s Mandarin Chinese immersion camp, running this summer for the second time, are due March 6. The free 10-day, 60-hour camp is being offered to college students and high schoolers July 7 through 18.

The camp is intended for those with little to no previous Chinese language knowledge. Students will gain mid-novice to high-novice understanding of the language and a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. The day camp will be held at COCC’s Chandler Lab in Bend and will include 15 high schoolers and 10 college students.

The camp funded by a National Security Agency STARTALK grant. In addition to language instruction, the camp will also feature a Chinese cooking experience and a simulated Chinese street market.

Students may opt in for college credit before the start of the program. After successfully completing it, they will be eligible for up to four college credits at no cost.
