Central Oregon favorite Poor Man’s Whiskey flies back into The Belfry to kick off the Sisters venue’s concert season in earnest Friday. The roots-rockin’ string band, a co-founder of and annual performer at the 4 Peaks Music Festival, released its long-awaited, long-gestating (since 2001 at least, according to guitarist/mandolinist Jason Beard) seventh studio album, “Juniper Mountain,” earlier this year. The historical concept album, a love story of sorts about an Irish immigrant drafted to fight in the American Civil War, finds the band stretching musically as well, especially on the 12-plus minute opening track “Abigail.” The group’s propensity for upbeat stompers remains, however — good thing for the lively dancers The Belfry usually attracts.

Poor Man’s Whiskey: 8 p.m. Friday; $20 plus fees in advance; The Belfry, 302 E. Main Ave., Sisters; belfryevents.com.
