Another year is about to end, but Central Oregon can’t start 2019 without a little (or a lot of) live music. If you’re looking for some of that and need a place to start, look no further:
• Larry and His Flask’s New Year’s Eve shows are an annual tradition in Bend, and this year is no exception. The folk/roots/punk quintet, which this year capped off its comeback with heavy touring and a new studio album, “This Remedy,” will perform at the Domino Room with Possessed by Paul James and The Autonomics.
In addition to providing foot-stomping folk ’n’ roll to ring in the New Year, Larry and His Flask also will raffle off two instruments — an Eastman acoustic guitar and a Deering Goodtime Banjo — with proceeds benefiting the Cascade Horizon Band, a symphonic band for musicians ages 50 and older. The Cascade Horizon Band is led by Sue Steiger, Larry members Kirk Skatvold and Andrew Carew’s former music teacher at High Desert Middle School, hence the band’s involvement.
“She would let us come in at lunch … and let us play at full volume as a rock band,” Skatvold said. “I’ve played with Andrew ever since.”
An art show featuring local artists will take place at 7 p.m. in the foyer of the Domino Room, soundtracked by live music from Willie Tea Taylor and Tom Vandenavond.
Larry and His Flask, with Possessed by Paul James, The Autonomics, Willie Tea Taylor, Tom Vandenavond: 7 p.m. Monday; $17 plus fees in advance, Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend; midtownbend.com or 541-408-4329.
• Another Bend tradition, the free Countdown to the New Year shows at McMenamins Old St. Francis School kicked off with Parlour’s last show ever Dec. 26, and bands performed every night through the weekend, leading up to the big night.
The New Year’s Eve party features performances from theatrical R&B/rock band Company Grand in Father Luke’s Room and Montana newgrass band The Kitchen Dwellers in the theater. Tickets for these shows cost $10.
New Year’s Eve with Company Grand, The Kitchen Dwellers: 9 p.m. Monday; $10 at the door; ages 21 and older; McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St., Bend; mcmenamins.com or 541-382-5174.
• The River Pig Saloon in Bend will host a New Year’s Eve block party at the Box Factory featuring live music, a silent disco with dueling DJs and a ball drop at midnight (eat your heart out, Times Square). Fire pits, food carts, two bars and a free “champagne of beers” toast at midnight round out the event.
A Bend New Year’s Eve: 8 p.m. Monday; $28 plus fees; ages 21 and older; The Box Factory, 550 SW Industrial Way, Bend; merctickets.com or 541-385-6777.
