EUGENE — Oregon has added five-star forward Troy Brown Jr. to its men’s basketball recruiting class.
The 6-foot-6, 210-pound forward from Centennial High School in Las Vegas made a verbal commitment to the Ducks just two days before the early signing period began Wednesday. He is ranked as the No. 18 player in the class of 2017 by ESPN and No. 13 by 247Sports.
Brown also made visits to Alabama, Kansas, Ohio State and Georgetown.
“At the end of the day, the thing that made them stand out over the other schools was the coaching staff,” Brown told Rivals.com. “I had a lot of options, but at the end of the day I was comfortable with the coaching staff and I was confident in them and how they would let me play and I really felt a lot of trust in coach (Dana) Altman.
“Also, what stood out was their style of play. They get up and down, and all of the players they have are versatile and play multiple positions. Also, defensively, they like to press a lot and that creates turnovers and opportunities.”
As a junior, Brown was the Northwest League most valuable player when he averaged 19 points, 9.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists to lead the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish in their region. He was a first-team all-state selection in Nevada.
Brown is one of three players expected to sign with Oregon during the early period that runs through next Wednesday. The Ducks earlier received verbal commitments from guard Victor Bailey of Austin, Texas, and forward Abu Kigab of Napa, California.
